Sharpen your axes and raise your horns people! This week’s review is for Northern Wrath, the first part of the Hanged God trilogy, by Thilde Kold Holdt. Book Review: The Trials of Koli, by M.R. Carey

For my review this week, I’m once again journeying into Ingland with the friendliest guide in the world. That’s right, it’s The Trials of Koli, by M.R. Carey, the second part of the Rampart trilogy. Thanks to its publisher, Orbit, for the free electronic copy of the book which I received in exchange for this… Read More Book Review: The Trials of Koli, by M.R. Carey

Music Monday: The Human Son, by Adrian J. Walker

For Music Monday this week, I thought I would celebrate the paperback release of Adrian J. Walker’s The Human Son by reminding you all how great it is, as well as picking an album to go with it. Music Monday is a weekly meme created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, and this is… Read More Music Monday: The Human Son, by Adrian J. Walker

Book Review: The Sentient, by Nadia Afifi

This week, I’m reviewing The Sentient, by Nadia Afifi. Cloning, conspiracies and consciousness certainly gave me plenty of food for thought with this one. This fair and unbiased review was conducted with gratitude for the free electronic copy of the book which I received from the publisher, Flame Tree Press. This review contains an affiliate… Read More Book Review: The Sentient, by Nadia Afifi

You Wouldn’t Want to Live There: Part 2

It returns. The feature that I had an absolute blast writing before, which saw this little blog chosen as blog of the day by The Write Reads (huge thanks to them for the support). Yes, it’s back, so without further ado, here are five more fictional places I think we can all agree are pretty… Read More You Wouldn’t Want to Live There: Part 2

Music Monday: The Phlebotomist, by Chris Panatier

I feel like Music Monday should have its own jaunty jingle. I’m not saying I should attempt to come up with one, because it would be horrible and probably cause bleeding out of the ears, but someone should really get on that. Anyway, for today (in this adapted meme created by Drew at The Tattooed… Read More Music Monday: The Phlebotomist, by Chris Panatier

Book Review: Permafrost, by Alastair Reynolds

For my review this week, I decided to try an author I’d heard lots about, but had never read anything by before – Alastair Reynolds. As Permafrost is a novella, it seemed like the perfect way to dip a toe in the water. Did I like it, or did it leave me cold? Read on… Read More Book Review: Permafrost, by Alastair Reynolds

My most recent read, finished last night. There's a lot of bioengineered food for thought in this one!
A helpful reminder that just because you can do something, that doesn't mean you should. Like taking pretty photos of a book lying in snow, for example. Thankfully, the book is OK, after I brushed off a lot of the clingy white stuff!
January's physical read books! It's been a great reading month for me, with a couple of ARC eBooks thrown in for good measure too (Rebecca Roanhorse's Black Sun and Stephen Deas' The Moonsteel Crown).
A couple of days in Wales - not in the happiest circumstances, sadly - but some beautiful views around here.
I don't even care that this won't fit alongside any of my other books, it's such a cool design! This month's #bookclub pick, courtesy of @jessicarose.1995, can't wait to get started on this one.
I actually won a competition! Courtesy of @rebellionpublishing, this arrived today, can't wait to read it!
UK giveaway!
Never happier than when he's got a snack #dogsofinstagram #dog #kingcharlescavalier #spanielsofinstagram #spaniel
And so we come to the last #SciFiMonth prompt! My favourite Sci-fi Month read is one that I didn't schedule for a review, obviously. Typical.
The penultimate prompt for #SciFiMonth! Today it's a lovely book rainbow, probably with accompanying arguments about whether or not my purple choice is actually purple. It is. Fight me.
Stand back, I'm going to try science! Not words I've ever said myself, I'll admit. No, this is today's prompt for #SciFiMonth, celebrating the anniversary of The Royal Society. We're talking favorite scientists and discoveries today.
"That's not how I remember it" is today's #SciFiMonth prompt, and it's all to do with alternate histories and the like. This fits the bill pretty perfectly!
